A combination of decorating two separate areas to create a continuous flow of balance in your home is a great way to incorporate all parts of your house. Beautifying the patio up to the backyard and treating the deck as an extension of the kitchen are good examples of utilizing two areas and joining them together as one whole area of decorated living space.
You can apply home decorating by integrating the colors, theme and some decorative items from inside to the outside. One way to extend the hallway or the receiving area to the front porch is by adorning it with an indoor-outdoor area rug with the same colors as the carpet or the walls. As with any home enhancement techniques, put items that will highlight an area. An artificial waterfall backyard or a Zen garden can totally transform the back of your house to a beauty as opposed to just being an empty and dull space.
For the outdoors it makes sense to use typical outdoor wooden furniture that has been treated to resist the elements so that it will last for several seasons. Outdoor furniture that is not treated can rot in excessive rain. You may even want to put a warmer outside for the cool evenings. If you are using cushions make sure you use removable cushions that pick up the colors of nature and blend in with the colors of the room and the area rug you’ve placed in this place. Rustic and natural blend well together and create a homey place to sit and relax. A in-door out-door carpet runner will keep the dirt from being tracked back into the house and the area a homey look.
You can also create themes such as a southern charm by putting white wicker chairs or a magical oasis by placing several plants and vibrant flowers. A small pond or an artificial waterfall will also look perfect.
If you feel frustrated that some of your decorating ideas are not meant for indoor use, perhaps you can apply them outdoors. After all, the space is bigger and more flexible outdoors than it is inside your home. Hanging plants, putting up a birdhouse, creating a mini-farm or a fishpond – these things are suitable for outdoor decorating. However, don’t disregard the fact that indoor items can also be used for your outdoor spaces. Think beanbag, area rugs, side table, couch, coffee table, scented candles, artworks, and the list goes on
